July Artist of the Month: Judy Albright

Ever since I was a little girl, I drew, and colored, and painted. I even went to college with the hope of becoming an artist. But I was afraid. Afraid of failure and that I wasn’t good enough. I love children, so I became a Kindergarten teacher instead.

I should have been afraid of that, because it was very hard, but I loved it! And of course, I sang, and drew, and painted over a 32 year career as an educator.

After my retirement, and still fearful, I finally found the courage to take some classes and really make a commitment to studying, and drawing, and painting until a class in pastel sparked something in me!

Through both still life and landscape, I try to capture the essence of home—those small, yet significant moments and places that ground me and bring me comfort. I try to remember the lessons that so many five and six year olds taught me. To find wonder and amazement in the simplest things!”
