Description
Room 24 was once Jessica Swift’s bedroom. Philanthropist Jessica Stewart Swift (1871-1982) was the last owner of the Swift House before it became an inn, and the namesake of our restaurant, Jessica’s. A super centenarian, she was also one of the longest lived Vermonters of all time! The room retains one of the first phones installed in Middlebury; Jessica’s mother had the phone installed in order to listen to church services.
Located on the second-floor, her room features navy blue wallpaper with a dazzling flower-and-vine design, two sitting chairs, a four-poster queen-size bed, and newly updated bathroom with a soaking tub, rain shower and wall mounted hand shower. A wood-burning fireplace keeps the room warm in the winter and the central air conditioning keeps it cool in the summer. Jessica herself would have enjoyed gazing out of the private deck overlooking the sweeping lawn, enjoying the sight of children sledding in the snow or the fall foliage turning colors. The Swift Room is one of our larger Main House rooms and a favorite among guests.
