DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, October 24th at 7pm & Sunday October 25th at 2pm \nBoth performances will be on the Historic Rothrock Main Stage. \nPresented by Maiden Vermont\, Middlebury’s beloved women’s a cappella chorus that specializes in close harmony singing.  \nUnder the direction of the energetic and talented Tim Guiles\, the Maiden Vermont Chorus brings its “hearts on fire” music and close harmony singing back to the stage.  This local a cappella chorus of 35 women has prepared an exciting concert program which includes a great arrangement of the Pentatonix SING! along with a range of music from the Beatles to popular songs from movies such as Barbie\, Toy Story and The Greatest Showman. The arc of the show this year is looking at how music can change the world-in our hearts one at a time\, and collectively as we explore social issues of war and peace-and how to deal with changes in the world around us.

SUMMARY:Dr. Galit Atlas: Come Closer in conversation with Devon Jersild
DESCRIPTION:Internationally renowned psychoanalyst Dr. Galit Atlas returns with a new book on the childhood wounds that quietly shape how we love as adults. \nDr. Galit Atlas\, the internationally bestselling author of Emotional Inheritance\, joins Weybridge author and psychologist Devon Jersild for an evening built around her new book\, Come Closer: Childhood Wounds\, Adult Love\, and the Secrets of Emotional Intimacy.  \nThis profound work explores the hidden barriers to the deep connections we crave\, inviting readers into the private lives of her patients-and her own vulnerabilities-to reveal how childhood wounds unconsciously shape our adult patterns. \nBy identifying six “wounded child” archetypes-among them\, the frightened child\, the melancholic child\, and the invisible child-Dr. Atlas outlines a transformative framework for healing. Her narrative style bridges the gap between deep psychoanalytic theory and dramatic storytelling\, making the mechanics of emotional intimacy accessible to readers of all backgrounds. \nDr. Atlas will be joined on stage by Devon Jersild\, a clinical psychologist and author of the recent novel Luminous Bodies. Together\, they will discuss the delicate intersections of personal history\, trauma response\, and the profound bravery required to truly let someone “come closer.” \nTime will be reserved for audience questions\, followed by book signing and reception with cash bar. Books will be available for purchase at the event and are currently for pre-order at a 20% discount.

SUMMARY:Museum Lecture: Savannah Marquardt
DESCRIPTION:“Afterlives of South Italian Vas Painting: Restoration and Fabrication of Ancient Art in Eighteenth-Century Naples” \nWhen the magnificent red-figure vases now recognized as “Ancient Greek” first began to be systematically removed from graves in Southern Italy in the eighteenth-century\, they captivated antiquarian audiences. Wealthy collectors were struck by the desire to own-and to improve-ancient history. How were these red-figure cases “restored\,” and what were the stakes of this restoration? Considering these questions reveals that the afterlife of antiquity in the eighteenth century was predicated on remarkably modern concerns about who is considered capable of making great art and what the role of “classical civilizations” is in production of modern identities.

SUMMARY:Hirschfield International Film Series: The Oldest Person in the World
DESCRIPTION:A ten-year worldwide exploration tracks successive holders of the oldest living person title. A study of longevity transforms into reflection on time’s flow\, fate’s unpredictability\, and the joy of human existence. “For a movie so filled with death\, The Oldest Person in the World is surprisingly\, almost confrontationally life-affirming.” -Vulture “A soft and gentle hug of a film\, one that reifies life’s most sacred values while retaining the essential mystery behind our most pressing questions.”-ScreenRant. Brought to you by Hirschfield International Film Series.

SUMMARY:Augustus' Youth and Augustan Youth
DESCRIPTION:As the young Octavian became the ageing Augustus\, his unprecedented longevity created a representational problem: how could the princeps grow old while embodying a regime whose future depended upon his continued vitality? Augustus’ portraiture offered one solution. His eventual adoption and retention of an idealizing\, conspicuously unageing image\, both in the round and in his coins\, resisted the physiognomic ageing visible in earlier portraits. Yet the increasingly elaborate commemoration of Augustus’ birthdays and longevity simultaneously advertised the passage of the very time his portraits sought to suppress. Indeed\, portraits produced in the provinces incorporated signs of his agedness\, unlike those from the urbs.
