For nearly fifty years, Robert Frost “barded” around the country charming audiences with his celebrated verse and rascally sense of humor. Played by Emmy-winning actor Gordon Clapp (NYPD Blue’s Detective Medavoy), Frost’s great wit and poetry are heard afresh in the award-winning one-man play Robert Frost: This Verse Business.
Playwright Andy Dolan and actor Gordon Clapp have long wanted to bring their acclaimed show, Robert Frost: This Verse Business, to Middlebury because of the poet’s rich history in our area. It is said that Frost used to attend movies at the old Town Hall Theater building, in addition to teaching at Middlebury College, living in Ripton and working up at the Breadloaf School of English. In the play, the author shares his pointed and funny opinions on politics, science, religion, and particularly, art, interspersed with performances of his poems from memory. Jay Parini, a poet and novelist, teaches at Middlebury College. His biography ROBERTY FROST: A LIFE was published in 2000 and won the Chicago Tribune-Heartland Award for the Best Book of that year. He recently edited a volume of Frost’s selected poems for the Library of America. Jay will moderate a talk-back after the Saturday matinee, along with playwright A.M. Dolan and actor Gordon Clapp
