August Under the Tent
August 1 @ 8:00 am - August 31 @ 5:00 pm
This August under the tent at Swift House Inn, creative luminaries from all over the country come together to celebrate the arts right here in Addison County. Each week throughout this summer month, a different arts organization from Middlebury takes center stage.
Who doesn’t love Meryl Streep? Whether it’s the Silkwood shower that we’ve all taken or the generation-defining fabulosity of The Devil Wears Prada, Streep is an icon beyond comparison. For five nights, we have five great Streep films to enjoy along with a cash bar and grab-and-go picnic fare from our very own Jessica’s restaurant. It’s the perfect way to wile away a late summer night with friends and family. This event is a part of the Middlebury New Filmmaker Festival and the brainchild of the inimitable Lloyd Komesar.
Support the arts and learn about Spanish wines at the same time! On Thursday, August 11, from 5:30-7:30pm, join Town Hall Theater outdoors under the big tent at Swift House Inn (SHI) for a Taste of Spain, featuring five Spanish wines and tapas. Guests will be greeted with a glass of Cava, and gradually progress through a flight of wines, two whites and two reds. SHI Sommelier David Herren will provide a brief overview of each wine, discussing how it showcases a particular Spanish region. Wine will be complemented with a delicious variety of light fare, courtesy of Jessica’s Restaurant. Mingle with your friends and raise a glass to the arts!
Tickets $50 at townhalltheater.org, with proceeds benefiting Town Hall Theater. Featured wines available by the bottle to purchase and take home at a 25% discount for this event only.
Middlebury Jazz Collective presents the Miles Donahue Quartet for one night only August 13, 2022 under the tent at Swift House. Fluent in both saxophone and trumpet, Donahue has been hailed as a jazz treasure and one of the best kept secrets of the genre. He will be accompanied by a percussion section from the Berklee School of Music in Boston.
Two sets: 7:30 and 8:45. Tickets are $15 and may be purchased through the Town Hall Theatre Box Office or at the door (cash only at the door).
After receiving over 100 submissions from playwrights across the country, Middlebury Acting Company has selected three vibrant new plays that address the question: What does the American Dream mean today? The festival aims to amplify three exciting new voices in theater, support the chosen playwrights as they continue to develop their plays, and invite the community to engage with the new play development process through staged readings, moderated talkbacks with the playwrights, and playwriting workshops. This is the first festival of its kind in the area – we hope you’ll join us for what is sure to be an exciting weekend!
Guaranteed to be one of the most stimulating and entertaining arts and culture evenings in Middlebury this summer, creative locals and accomplished auteurs come together under the Swift House Inn tent for conversation, networking, nibbles, cocktails, and live music.
