Green Lodging at Swift House Inn

Swift House Inn is proud to be a proponent of eco-friendly tourism and of our designation as a “Green Hotel in the Green Mountain State.”

This certification is a recognition of our pledge to protect our environment through our practice of reducing our energy use, recycling, changing our practices to be more environmentally friendly, and seeking out alternative energy sources like solar power.

We have made many changes to our footprint with the installation of new high-efficiency boilers and changing light fixtures to LED lighting. We have also changed to environmentally friendly cleaning products, and most of our paper and containers are from recycled and post-consumer products. We aspire to make recycling easier and more convenient for all our guests and staff. Lastly, we try to initiate new ways to reduce energy usage without impacting the comfort of your stay.

The following is our mission statement:

Swift House Inn – “Vermont Green Hotel”

Swift House Inn is committed to protecting and preserving the environment while maintaining the health and safety of our guests, employees, and the surrounding community in which we conduct our business. It is our policy and commitment to seek business operation improvements that help us lessen our impact on the environment through energy, water, and other natural resource conservation, waste generation reduction, practicing recycling when possible, purchasing and using recycled goods and materials, and reducing our use of known toxic materials. Our hope is to meet or exceed all environmental regulatory requirements in this endeavor while maintaining our high standards of guest service, cleanliness, and property condition.

In our effort to achieve the above goal, we have made significant behind-the-scenes changes to the inn, including the methods of cleaning and maintaining the property, and our purchasing. We’re just getting started and are open to new products and suggestions to improve.

Major improvements to conserve have included replacing all boilers with low mass, high-efficiency boilers, the installation of a guest room Energy Management System, use of programmable thermostats, conversion to LED lighting, weatherization of buildings, and energy audits.

As a guest, here are some ways you can help:

  • Towel Reuse Program: If you hang your towel to dry, the housekeepers leave it there. If you desire new towels, just place the used ones in the tub or shower.
  • Recycling: Place any bottles, cans, newspapers, or paper products next to your in-room trash can for daily pickup or in the in room recycling can. Also, each building offers recycling bins for appropriate items.
  • Leaving Your Room: Please turn out the lights when you leave your room. The heat or air conditioning will automatically adjust after you leave your room. The rooms are equipped with heat exchangers that quickly return the room to the desired temperature upon your return.

If you have any questions, please ask a staff member.
