The Main House

Originally built in 1814 by Samuel Swift, the Main House is the most historic of all the buildings and offers the largest variety of rooms, each with its own unique personality. The Main House offers nine rooms for a boutique New England bed-and-breakfast experience. All of the rooms and common areas are air-conditioned.

The only guest room on the first floor of this building is our Garden Room, which features a king-size bed, tiled oversized rain shower, and a private patio great for enjoying the warmer days of summer and fall. The Garden room is also the only dog-friendly room in the Main House.  The Swift Room, located on the second floor, features a queen-size bed, a fireplace for  winter nights, and a private deck for warm summer evenings. The Governor’s Room is a large, sunny, corner room that offers a king-size bed, a jetted tub, and a gas fireplace, an excellent choice for a romantic winter night. The Clark Room, situated at the end of the hallway, features a queen-size bed and a twin-size XL memory foam sleeper sofa—perfect for a family visiting Middlebury College.

Located on the first floor is the parlor, Jessica’s restaurant, and our fully stocked Blue Bar with local beers on tap and a Wine Spectator award-winning wine list. The full menu ranges from a Steak Frites with hand-cut fries, to a variety of salads, to a fine-dining experience of Chef Rob Fenn’s seasonal creations with ingredients sourced from local producers. Each morning, a complimentary full breakfast is served, 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

In the winter, guests can read a book next to the warmth of the fireplace in the parlor, or in the summer, sip a glass of wine on the screened-in porch in the light of the setting sun. We are sure to have something to suit your needs, no matter what is bringing you to Middlebury, Vermont.
