There are many advantages to staying at the Swift House Inn, but one of the best ones is that there are so many delicious places to eat in Middlebury, VT. Even if our on-site restaurant, Jessica’s, is closed, or you’re looking for something a little different, there are a number of well-reviewed places to choose from.

One of those such restaurants has always been Two Brothers Tavern. Their food is always delicious and fresh, they serve local beer on tap, and they’re open late for those who enjoy a late-night dinner and drink. Two Brothers recently made some major renovations and converted their lounge into a family-friendly Neapolitan pizza bar named Notte (pronounced “no-tay,” the Italian word for night).

Middlebury already has quite a few pizza places:  American Flatbread, Nino’s Sicilian Pizza, Green Peppers Restaurant, and Shafer’s Market & Deli, but they are all very different from each other and from Notte, when it comes to their atmospheres and styles of pizza.

So what is Neapolitan pizza? Neapolitan pizza, or pizza Napoletana, is a type of pizza that originated in Naples, Italy. It is prepared with simple and fresh ingredients: a basic dough, raw tomatoes, fresh mozzarella cheese, fresh basil, and olive oil. Two of its defining characteristics are that there is often more sauce than cheese and it’s typically not loaded down with fancy toppings.

To go along with its Italian roots, Notte offers appetizers built for sharing, antipasti and insalate, and Italian-inspired craft cocktails. The Vermont beers and live music that the lounge was known and loved for are still available along with some other great events like Trivia sponsored by Otter Creek Brewing and Open Mic.

Another great advantage to staying at the Swift House Inn: we are less than a mile away from downtown Middlebury, including Notte and Two Brothers Tavern. Make a night of eating delicious pizza, listening to live music by Notte’s fireplace, and then walk back to the Swift House Inn to spend the night and enjoy a complimentary full breakfast the next morning.

Notte is open Tuesday through Saturday, 5:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. The full menu is served until 11:00 p.m., and late night slices are served until the music ends. Take-out is available by calling 802-989-7351. For more info visit their website at www.nottevt.com.
