Did you know that we each have 5 to 6 million cells that give us our sense of smell? The human sense of smell is very acute and can recognize thousands of different smells. What is it though about the smell of fresh baked goods that can make us stop dead in our tracks, forget what we are doing, and make our way inside whatever store is offering the delicious goodies we are smelling? We don’t know about you, but we love delicious bakery goods and there is no better place to find your favorites than the Otter Creek Bakery right here in Middlebury, VT.
The Otter Creek Bakery has been serving delicious treats since 1986, when owners Ben & Sarah Wood first opened their now very popular store. It was first located in the Frog Hollow Mill Building but in 1989 they bought and completely renovated an old Esso Station on College Street, which has now been where they have called home and served countless customers for over 25 years. They truly love what they do and it shows in the quality and creativity of the products they have to offer.
They focus on being a small batch bakery that puts quality over quantity so you can always expect fresh, unique goods always made with quality local ingredients. Their bakery menu includes a wide range of artisan breads, made from scratch cookies (Maple Butter, Hazelnut White Chocolate, Chocolate Orange Pecan, and Gingerbread Moose to name a few!), croissants, muffins, and scones. They also have a wide variety of cakes and tarts for sale every day. You’ll find a full coffee menu, all of which pair wonderfully with any treat that you choose and they offer a delicious lunch menu as well if you are in the mood for something savory.
It’s a special place to meet up with friends, stop in after a day in the beautiful Vermont outdoors, or to pick up some goodies that will impress your dinner party guests. We know the guests at our inn love to make a stop here so plan on checking them out the next time you are staying with us!
