The first day of fall is less than a month away—where has the time gone? We have had such an amazing summer here in Vermont and our guests, both old and new, have raved about the memories made and how they can’t wait to come back. We of course know what a gem this area is but you need to see it to truly believe it! The abundance of things to do and see amidst a breathtaking, scenic backdrop—it’s just a little piece of heaven. Even though the seasons are soon to change, that doesn’t mean there is any less fun to be had and a favorite fall event around here is the Harvest Festival at Shelburne Farms.
Shelburne Farms is a 1400-acre working farm in Shelburne, VT, which is just over a half-hour from our bed and breakfast in Middlebury. Located on the shores of Lake Champlain, it is a nonprofit education center for sustainability and also happens to be a National Historic Landmark. They have been putting on the harvest festival every year now for 38 years! This year it will be taking place September 17, 2016 from 10am-4pm. Admission is only $10 for adults and $5 for children.
The day will be full of celebrating all of the farm and food traditions of Vermont. For families, there will be a large tent full of fun activities, farm animals, and horse-drawn hayrides. Multiple stages will be hosting a variety of entertainers and performers, talented artisans will be demonstrating their skills, and of course one of the best reasons to be there is for the delicious farm-fresh food! If you feel up to a bit of exploring, there are some great walking and hiking trails where you can find some pretty awesome views.
Even though fall is looming it doesn’t mean you can’t sneak in a last minute summer getaway! Whether you are traveling through for a night, looking for a weekend getaway or would like to come in for a festival like this one, we would love to host you at our charming, historic inn. You can book directly online or contact us should you need further assistance in planning the perfect Vermont vacation.
