At the beginning of April we started off our Lake Champlain Bikeways series with a look at a great tour called the Land of Milk and Honey Tour. We have such a passion not just for biking, but getting outdoors and enjoying all that this gorgeous area has to offer! It just happens that taking a scenic bike ride is a great way to do that! Today we want to share with you another great tour called the Town and Country Tour. This is a 31.3-mile tour that starts and ends at the Vergennes Town Green.
Since this loop starts in Vergennes, we thought we’d share just a bit about this charming place. It is actually Vermont’s oldest and smallest city, at only two square miles in size. With a population of just under 3000, you will find it full of friendly people and an absolutely picturesque downtown. Before of after your ride, you must pay a visit to the pristine Vergennes Falls where Otter Creek crosses the city and water-powered sawmills could once be found back in the day. You’ll find band concerts going on in City Park on Monday evenings during the summer and quaint shops to explore down the eclectic Main Street.
Ok, back to bike riding! Once you leave Vergennes for the Town and Country Tour you will wind your way to Bristol, through villages and farmland, before heading back again. The route has mostly paved roads and there are some hilly spots so be prepared for a few challenges here and there. You can find a complete loop description here. If you need some fueling up or relaxing along the loop we suggest checking out Bristol Bakery or the Village Cremee Stand, which is just outside of Bristol. If you do try this loop, we would love your feedback for other guests who may want to venture out.
