A day outdoors can be fuel for the soul—breathing in fresh Vermont air while surrounded by beauty. We may not have many days of winter yet as the season is soon to change but with snow on the ground, there is still time to get in some great cross country skiing and Ole’s Cross Country Ski Center is a fun place to check out.
Located in Warren, VT, less than an hour drive from our inn in Middlebury, Ole’s Cross Country Ski Center is actually at the Warren-Sugarbush Airport, which is on a plateau 1500-feet high. The airport closes from November to May and Ole’s has been providing skiing and snowshoeing services for over thirty years. The snow, trails, and views here are excellent. They take the time to pack down snow on 30 miles of trails so your skis will glide smoothly. You’ll find yourself on open fields or winding through quiet, snow-covered forests. It is truly a peaceful, beautiful place to spend the day outdoors.
If you are in need of gear, they offer high quality rentals and once you are done, relax in the lounge or grab a delicious lunch at Ole’s deli. Once you pay for one rental fee, you can choose to ski or snowshoe. Start out cross country skiing, grab lunch and then swap your skis for snowshoes and go check out the 10 miles of trails dedicated just for snowshoeing. They also offer lessons for beginners and guided ski or snowshoe tours. Whether you are a novice or expert, alone or with a big group of family and friends, Ole’s is a great place to spend the day! Since snow can often come and go on a dime, be sure to check their website for hours and closings.
