Vermont Landmark Fire and Ice Restaurant

Yellow sign portraying a fireball, brown lettering Fire & Ice Restaurant

Fire and Ice has been landmark restaurant in the Middlebury, VT area since 1974. With such a unique name, it is no surprise there is story behind it. The name in fact actually comes from the work of local poet, Robert Frost. “Fire” is behind the passion for cooking and “Ice” is behind the fantastic drink mixing that they love to do.

Dale & Cindy Goddard were the founders of this restaurant and their son Paris Rinder-Goddard now runs it. Dale & Cindy spent years creating a museum-style restaurant that is now filled with an incredible array of unique treasures that create a casual, yet elegant atmosphere. You’ll find an original 1921 Hackercraft motorboat, almost 1000 black and white photos, original paintings, many antiques and a library full of old books.

They partner with many local farms to bring you the freshest ingredients for their dishes. The menu is offers a wide variety of delicious options including Coconut Shrimp, Salmon Cakes, The Fire and Ice Steak, Prime Rib, Burgers, and so much more. With a salad bar that happens to be the biggest one in Vermont, it is no wonder it has been named the Salad Ballroom. You’ll find over 55 items to choose from including appetizers, local meats and cheeses, and delicious desserts. Here you will also find the attached Big Moose Pub, that offers daily drink specials and happy hour discounts.

Whether you want a cozy place to warm up during a chilly winter evening or spend a romantic date night out, this restaurant is one to try. We wish all of our friends and past guests a happy New Year and hope to meet many more new friends in 2016!
