Martin Luther King Jr. led an extraordinary life as a civil rights activist, playing a pivotal role in ending the segregation of African-Americans. He was assassinated in 1968 but his legacy lives on.
Communities all over the United States organize events to celebrate this great man’s life and accomplishments. The Department of Music and the Oratory Society in Middlebury, VT are bringing MLK Legacy: A Celebration in Song, Speech, and Dance to the Mead Memorial Chapel on January 19th, 2015. Keith McCutchen, the director of the Hayes School of Music Gospel Choir and Jazz Vocal Ensemble, will be conduction a community choir and performing as well. He is an incredible pianist, singer, and arranger. Select speeches from the past and today, by Martin Luther King Jr. and other notable people in the Civil Rights movement, will be performed by talented members of the Oratory Society. It will be an evening of listening, remembering, honoring, and celebrating an extremely important person and time in our history. You can even join the choir if you have a love for singing and want to be involved.
