Hiking the Great Trails Around Middlebury, VT

With the Adirondacks to the west and the Green Mountains to the east, Middlebury, VT is surrounded by incredible beauty. Hiking near Swift House Inn
There is a wide variety of hiking in this area. Whether you are looking for a challenge to add to the books or a relaxing jaunt after enjoying one of our gourmet breakfasts, you’ll find something to suit your taste.
The Long Trail in the Green Mountains
This is actually considered the oldest long distance hiking trail in America. It’s a pretty rugged area with varied terrain but its 273-mile footpath and 175 miles of side trails offers choices for hikers of all levels. Even though it has a backcountry nature, it is well marked.
Snake Mountain
The highlight of hiking here is the scenery with beautiful views of Champlain Valley and the Adirondack Mountains making every step worthwhile. It is a moderate hike that generally takes around 2 hours to complete the 3.6 miles round trip trail. There are some flat areas and some winding spots that have you surrounded by beautiful forest. You may also come across some white-tailed deer, cottontail rabbit, and turkey along the way.
Moosalamoo
The Moosalamoo National Recreation Area is perfect for outdoor enthusiasts of all ages. There are more than 70 miles of well-maintained trails, offering different views and challenges. For an “educational” stop, check out the Robert Frost Interpretive Trail or try the Falls of Lana and Silver Lake Trails for a moderate hiking day with spectacular scenery.
Trail Around Middlebury (TAM)
Take an easy trek on this great trail, which is a footpath over 16 miles long that encircles the village of Middlebury. There are several trail sections to choose from and a great way to see our beautiful area.
